Stir up Sunday

Blimey, where did the year go ? It’s only a month to Christmas so my mind is turning to festive cooking. I really hate all the commercialism of Christmas but I absolutely love the traditions, the cooking , the baking, the homely cosy times. I’m not bothered about parties , works do’s and the getting…

Bread

Its been a while but after a summer and early autumn of gardening , pickling preserving ,winemaking ,foraging and generally non stop cooking my freezer and pantry shelves could take no more and neither could I, I was feeling a bit frazzled and I needed a rest away from all this cooking. After a fab…

Wine Making Weekend

One of the things that’s lovely about allotmenteering is the sharing that goes on between plots. One gardener’s glut can be a fellow plot holder’s need. So when a neighbouring allotmenteer asked hubby and I if we wanted his grapes we jumped at the opportunity with the idea of having a go at making proper…

Cornish Pasties

I don’t know why but I just can’t cook in small quantities, if I’m going to have a cook up I might as well do a lot rather than a little and get it stashed in the freezer. I’ve been terrible this year in my squirrelling of food into the freezer. I hope this isn’t…

I get pleasure down at my plot whatever the weather…

Baking Days

Wet and miserable days make me want to bake. It must stem from my childhood because on winter weekends mum and I would often get the mixing bowls out and bake. Perusing the Be-Ro baking book deciding what to create , the delight of licking the bowl ,and tadddah two hours later we would have…

Homelygirl. So let me introduce myself. I am a slightly nutty lass who loves everything homely, be it growing my own fruit and veg, foraging, cooking and baking, preserving, knitting, crafts and creating anything really. Turning a few simple ingredients into a gourmet feast for my family is my love and my passion. Nurturing a seed into a crop I can eat is a joy to me as is turning a ball of wool into something I can wear. I believe creativity is essential to a healthy mind body and soul. So this is what I do. All my spare time is spent in the great outdoors or being creative and productive one way or another. This blog is going to be about just that. Living a simple but rich life doing wonderful homely things.I hope you enjoy reading .
